Your Aunt Pat, LaVerne and I shared an amazing conversation with a marine last summer during the NAACP convention in NYC, anniversary of NAACP btw, with Cornel West and Barack both speaking; anyway...this dude held that Al is an old school shucker and jiver and no one wants him representing them. He challenges authority because he has no sense of how to live in a capitalistic society without someone to blame, and he will never succeed in bringing anyone to justice for this very reason. Naturally the kid was fresh out the service, grew up in BedStuy? and was a Marine. Talkative cat. I let him talk. But your cousin LaVerne didn't! With her eyes rolled as far as I've ever seen them, she commented, "And what, is so bad, about that...(dramatic pauses) he can speak, for me. He is uh artculate man, uh leader, and uh voice for the people whenever someone needs one. Tawanna Brailey, Duke Lacrosse, Sean Bell, he's there. Who else is gonna do it?" To which the marine responded, "Black leadership has failed if they let Al Sharpton represent the injustices of our people. He is an injustice walking." I just laughed and let them go at it. But what do you think. If you got pulled over and sent to jail and called a black bitch, would you call Rev. Al to come to your rescue?
My Twitter still won't work on either my Firefox or Safari. I'm not that disturbed, but its kinda annoying.
